Zips are your friend

What a palava. Here’s a tip for you – if you go out running, and put your house keys in a pocket in your shorts, why not do the zip up? It’s a handy feature, which funnily enough stops them from falling out.

Can you see where I’m going with this? Yep. Muggins locked herself out of her flat the other night after losing her key somewhere on the Downs, only realising after the 20 minute walk home. Knowing I hadn’t a hope in hell of finding it again, plan B was to hunt down my spare set. Only one problem – it was 6.30pm. I knew Matt (who had aforementioned spare set on his key ring) was going out for a run himself at 6.30pm.

So, with fingers firmly crossed (I was in shorts and a tshirt, and it was getting decidedly cooler), I tried my brother’s buzzer just up the road from my flat, and thankfully he was in. He clothed me in one of his tracksuits, gave me some toast, and while I warmed up I tried to call Matt in case he got home and could hear his phone. An hour and a half later, still no luck, so I walked all the way back up to the Downs, where Matt lives, found him cooking fish fingers with his phone muffled in the depths of his room somewhere, took my keys and walked all the way home again, feeling a bit sorry for myself – and pretty knackered.

Learn from my mistakes people. Do up the zip.
